The council can help anyone with a significant sight loss living in the Borough of Tameside and offers:
- assessment: a team of specialist rehabilitation and social workers who undertake a broad assessment of the practical, emotional and social needs of the individual, their families and carers.

- rehabilitation skills: a fully equipped rehabilitation kitchen is available for the individual to develop daily living skills.
- low vision training, computers, braille, Moon, and mobility
- equipment: there is a large range of equipment and aids to try
- counselling support
- a range of groups: for example, an information group for newly diagnosed visually impaired people, a relaxation and meditation group, and a range of special interest and therapeutic groups
- awareness training: courses in awareness can be arranged for anyone working with visually impaired people.

Telephoned for advice on an assessment for my daughters visual aids. Not only did they give advice but they set up a home visit to reassess my daughters needs. Excellent service, polite and very helpful. Thank you. Peter Lumley
